Questions Raised by Epstein

[Assuming you are a leader of a society] What is pedophilia? What is an adult and what is a child? Why is it wrong for an adult to have sex with a minor? What is wrong with rape? Why does pedophilia cause so much public fury? How much of those are fake justice? What are the ethics? Why are we so angry at Epstein? Why do we care about other people? Why do we want to protect the children? Why is it that some of the human beings’ desire go against the social norms? Don’t try to answer them with common sense, try to think, imagine we are not equipped with such morality codes and legal system, how would you go about or justify the need for the placement of such law and the norms?

[Assuming you are a member, I’m assigning you a world view] You are going to be born into the world at some point and then die pretty soon after. You are only given sixty something years. What is the point of your life? If you are not subjected to the risk of being arrested for committing crimes that bring you happiness, would you do it? If not, is it because you want to be a good person? Tangible gains such as money, sex, fame and control are the currency of your life, murdering makes those who you hate stop existing in the world, and for whatever reason, you are attracted to women who are not of age, maybe even well below the age, you might even get sexual arousal from cutting people’s throat. If meanings reside in the time period in which we exist in this world and during that time, your happiness comes from committing those crimes, would you tell yourself ‘oh, this is wrong’? If so, on what grounds? During what is a little bit over sixty years of time, the most efficient way for you to gain maximum amount of happiness is by committing those crimes without getting arrested. Either changing the law so that pedophilia gets legalized or changing your brain so that the source of your happiness completely change to something that fits the social norms will take a certain amount of time and effort to achieve and consequently drag down the efficiency of obtaining happiness during your life time, subjecting you to a less successful attempt at getting the most out of your life.

Now, who is more correct? Those two people operate in complete different ways, their incentives and motivations are different. We tend to view one as better than the other. Also note that I didn’t get into the details of the motivation behind the leader, it’s for you to assume and imagine. The fun part is how much of rights and wrongs can we assign to the debate? I think none, but of course you might think differently. Why would leader want to do what he’s doing? dig.
