The first kind of work is the kind of work that makes people like you. Something that either appeals to our animalistic instinct or something that is packaged in such a way that when people see it they think you have got something.
The second kind of work is the kind of work that’s extremely raw. It usually doesn’t make much sense and is very messy. It’s very hard to get people to admire if this is the kind of work that you are putting out.
Value that comes from the individual that is creating the work usually doesn’t equal the value that is assigned by the general public. I don’t know if it’s a good or bad thing. But awareness on such distinction does help when you’re feeling lost about the work you do. Especially if you’re trying to achieve something that requires other people’s validation.
